Racing - in/out
up
up
up
up
racing
it rises, pressing against my chest
my throat closes, eyes widen
i tell myself to breathe
to concentrate
in
out
in
out
in
out
breathe
focus on the movement
not the pressure
slow the racing of my heart
blink back the tears
swallow the fears
in
out
in
out
in
out
in
out
pushing the pain down
pushing it back
trying to find a space
for my racing heart to go
in
out
in
out
breathe
slow my thoughts
distracting myself from it
closing my eyes
opening my chest
in
out
in
out
focussing on anything but the pain
out
in
Love how the in and out triggers breathlessness in myself as I read.
ReplyDeleteI hoped that's what it would do. It's hard to get a feeling of breathless panic into words. LJx
