Lines
If I knew then, as the lines appeared,
That they were the first I would cross
I might have taken a moment to catch my breath
Before stepping into my new role.
If I knew then, as the lines appeared,
That they would become the first threads
Joining my heart to yours, I might
Have dreamed in brighter colours.
If I knew then, as the lines appeared,
That they would be the first of many,
I might have been more eager to wish the days away,
To start earning them sooner.
If I knew then, as the lines appeared,
Over time, that when I look at them now
It would be with a full heart,
I would never have known how much room it has still to grow.

I love your Lyrical Sunday posts! This poem is so beautiful and thought provoking. I still have the positive pregnancy test :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful and stirring, full of the emotional highs and lows of motherhood. Love x
