Thanks to Charlotte for her beautiful poem which has already been popped online.Run.
Canal-side she walked,
Groceries in hand,
Head in the clouds.
Sun warming her back,
she walked towards home,
thinking of the evening ahead.
Across the canal
the flash of metal,
the screaming voice
Run.
Please.
Run.
A whisper.
She stopped, jerked into being,
Thoughts tumbled over obstacles,
breathing faster,
She stopped, jerked into being,
Thoughts tumbled over obstacles,
breathing faster,
Run.
Run.
A whisper in the cacophony.
Run.
She stood, stuck
Between duty and fear
She stood, stuck
Between duty and fear
A whisper.
Her whisper.
Run. Please run.
Panting, panicked, watching
not wanting to see,
a quiet whisper,
turning into a scream
Fucking run

All week this song has been running through my mind as I thought about "run".
I really felt the sinister turn and foreboding atmosphere in this brilliant poem. The pace got to me to - literally running!
ReplyDeleteGosh, I wasn't expecting this! Very good, although very dark.
ReplyDeleteHere's my submission - the boy who loves to run.
